FSU Boys Race Photos

Sorry guys, I didn’t do a good job of getting photos during the guy’s race. (You know how long that line was for the bathrooms. ) Check the AndrewsPhotoGallery.com website because my brother was there and he takes better pictures than me anyway.

This is a sequence of photos from the start that I thought was interesting. Now back in the days when I ran, we didn’t have digital watches. (No we didn’t only have sundials.) But because it wasn’t practical to carry a stopwatch you just ran without watches and listened for the guy to call out your mile splits, or just didn’t get them. And you also had to listen at the finish to hear your time because they didn’t have a computer program listing everyone’s times. In fact the only thing they cared about back then was the place you finished in. I just bring this up, because if you look at the photos, the guy standing next to Brandon and D. Ross is Connor Revard and he finished second in the race. You will notice that he doesn’t have a watch on and he also doesn’t seem to be worried about making sure it gets started. Hmmmm?

(Remember do not listen to any advice without consulting your own coach to see whether it applies to you. )

Good job Guys. You've got some work to do, but I know you are capable.

Fractured Quote of the Week

Sons of Scotland, I am William Wallace.

William Wallace is seven feet tall

Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds, and if he were here he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse.

I AM William Wallace! And I see a whole army of my countrymen here in defiance of tyranny. You have come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What would you do without freedom? Will you fight?

Fight? Against that? No, we will run; and we will live.

Aye, fight, and you may die. Run and you'll live -- at least a while and dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take . . . our freedom!

From the movie BRAVEHEART

I don't know what this means for runners, but it makes me want go bash some heads every time I read it.

Interview with a runner

In this feature we will ask one runner an insightful question to give you an idea about what they think about when they are not running. See if you can guess who we interviewed. You can add a comment with your answer.

Q: What was the best thing that happened to you today?

A: I got a ring pop from my teacher.

JV BOYS PHOTO HIGHLIGHTS

Some photo highlights from the boys jv race.

Spencer at about 2 1/2 miles. Both He and Andrew broke 19, after alot of pool work.

Andrew looking serious. (Which doesn't happen often.)

They just call him "Machine".

Chris at 2 1/2 mile mark.
Cross Country is an objective sport, and any varsity runner is only made better by knowing that there is someone behind him, working their butt off trying to take his position. So keep working hard.

Fractured Quote of the Week

"People always talk about triumphs of the human spirit, well today I had a triumph of the human body. That's why everybody was applauding for me at the end. My guts and my heart. And while I eventually puked my guts out... I never puked my heart out. "

Some old faces

It was good to see some old faces at the UF meet this weekend. We are glad that they helped build the tradition of excellence.

Josh Brown (08) is running at North Florida.

Zack Andrews (08) is a freshman at UF. He owns a pair of running shoes.

Josh Brown (08) and Calvin Vannoy (08). Calvin is studying how to grow a beard at UF. (I hope he is taking the course pass/fail.) Josh is running at North Florida.

Kevin Lane (07) is running at University of Tampa.

Matt Dixon (06) is running at North Florida.

Kelly Savery (06) is running at University of South Florida.

Kyle Savery (04) with his new friend. Kyle graduated last spring in Engineering at UF, and is planning on starting graduate school soon. He was a top five runner with the state championship team in 2003.

Chiles Boys at UF

Chiles boys considering the future.

The race season about to start.

Sam and Brandon

Brandon with about a 300 yards go.
Brandon finished 28th in 17:39.

Senior Daniel Ross finished 27th in 17:37.
First for us.

Freshman Taylor Buzzard looks good in his first high school cross country meet. He runs about a 6 flat mile average in his first meet and helps us at number 5. Good work Taylor. You're only going to get better.

Andrew has a senior moment. (Remember the camera is always watching.)

The boys finish sixth. One point behind behind Sickles (3a) in a pretty tough field. Belen (first) and Jesuit (second) are ranked at the top of their divisions. Plant (3a) was third.
We had a good pack at one through four, and surprise help from a freshman at five. All of them know they can run faster. Let's show them next week.
JV photos tomorrow.

Girl's Team Wins in Gainesville

Before the race Carly is smiling like she knows something.

Carly battling Satelite number one runner at about a mile and quarter.

Lily at about 4k. She finished 4th in 19:22.

Kaia finished 9th in 19:44.

Kendall gets a medal for 12th place with a 20:01.

Alex ran 21:02 and finished 20th.

Kelley stops to pose for the photographer but still ran 21:20.

Stephanie with a strong finish runs 21:21. Satelite's number 3 is in the background. But lets remember girls what happens when we forget about Satelite.

Very nice first meet. The girls ran great with a sub 20 minute average. Lots of great performances. But we know that Satelite and the rest of Florida isn't going to quit and go home. The first meet always shows who worked hard over the summer, but there is still alot of season left.

Boys photos tomorrow.
