Goals

The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don't define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell yo where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.

Dennis Watley

So, its a new year and it's time make some new years resolutions. Set your resolutions with your goals in mind. You can use the "comments" section below to put your top three goals in writing and you can do it anonymously.

Fractured Quote of the Week

Po: Maybe I should just quit and go back to making noodles.

Master Oogway: Quit, don't quit? Noodles, don't noodles? You are too concerned about what was and what will be. There is a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.

She finishes in 4th place. Nice work Kaia.

Thought you would like to see the results of the Nike Nationals in Portland. From our meet, the Tatnel Team is Wilmington XC in third and the Collins Hill Team from Georgia is Suwanee in ninth. So we ran against some pretty tough teams in Raleigh. Something to think about.

Honors at the Basketball Game

The Girls team was honored at the halftime of the Chiles v. Maclay Basketball game tonight for their State Championship. It was a nice honor and good chance for the student body to support our girls. The girls got introduced and a nice red rose and a chance to stand in the middle of the court with their trophy. Cool!!!! If you missed it, here are some photos.

Letter to the Editor

On the front page of the local section of the Tallahassee Democrat is a letter to the editor about the Greenway. It appears that the Democrat is sympathetic to our interests. It's sad that we have to wait until someone from Pensacola starts asking the reasonable question of why the county commission is cutting off this use. Let's keep the pressure up. Someone with some political know-how willing to lead on this issue?

Here's the letter if you missed it:

Letter to the Editor

Keep cross county at the Greenway

For several years, I have been going to cross country meets at the Mikkosukee Greenway park. This year, I found out that the Leon County Commission was withdrawing the park as a venue for cross country meets, to protect the grass and so the western portion wouldn't have to be closed during the meets.
The grass in the park is bahia grass, a non-native species commonly planted along highways and in pastures. There are only about five to seven meets a year large enough to warrant parking on the grass. Bahia grass is very hardy and tolerates being parked on as well as being mowed to a short height.
The western portion of the park would be closed only five to seven times a year. The eastern portion remains open, even during large meets. In exchange for the minor inconvenience of losing a portion of the park for a portion of a few days, Leon County gets the infusion of meet dollars to area businesses. I traveled with the Pensacola Washington High School team to the regional meet on Nov. 8, and our party spent about $600 on two meals. Multiply this by the 15 or so teams that took part in the 3A race and the 12 or so teams that took part in the 1A race and there is a significant economic impact. For those meets that are held early in the morning and the meets hosted by FSU, you can add hotel stays for out-of-town teams.
Finally, the County Commission should be facilitating fitness for young people, not impeding it. I can unqualifiedly say that the Greenway is one of the best venues I have seen for high-school and college cross country. I urge the Leon County Commission to reconsider any decision that would bar FSU and local high schools from holding meets there.

Our Senior Allstar

Kaia Hampton runs this Saturday December 6 in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Senior Allstar Meet. Kaia was selected to run on the Region 1 team. This year they are dividing the teams by the regions that you run in the state series. That means making the region 1 team is no easy feat. So lets head out to Maclay this Saturday and support our Senior Allstar.

Here are some individual highlights from Kaia's season:
Personal Best 18:45 for 9th place at State Meet
2nd Place 3a Region 1 in 19:11
3rd Place 3a District 1 in 18:51
25th Place 18:46 Nike Southeast Nationals

CONGRATULATIONS KAIA!!

NXN Southeast / Final Day

We have a great team. Coach, runners, parents, brothers and sisters. The girls finish seventh. Not their best meet. Jodie and Alex have very tough days with injury and sickness. Stephanie comes through with a great finish as fifth runner and we finish ahead of Florida rival CSN. It was a great year.

Prerace photo.

Carly finishes 17th.

Lily runs a couragous run. She gave her all. One clue that a runner has given her all is when she stops ten feet before the line then looks down and has this absent look when she realizes she is not finished yet.

Kaia runs one her best races of the year. Running 18:46 on a tough course.
Great job Kaia.

Jodie with back pain. The hard surface was a problem.

Kendall finishes in 19:27.

Stephanie finishes finishes as fifth runner.

Nike Southeast Regional / Day 2, part 2

Tonight we went to the pasta diner. We exchanged t-shirts and got to listen to the track coach from Virginia and Shalene Flanagan who won the bronze medal at the Olympics in the 10000 meters. She has run the 10K in 30:34. Think about it that is two 15:17 5Ks. They both had alot of good things to say. The girls got to get an autograph and a photo with her.

Shalane with the team.

This is the uphill heading up to the start. You go down this hill at the start and up this hill in the middle and at the end.

Beautiful course through the woods. This is about at the two mile mark.
